Personality:

Chandra Nalaar is basically the poster child for pyromancers: hot-headed, extremely emotional, exemplifying nearly every tenant that fire mages hold dear. First and foremost Chandra values freedom above all things. She hates being restricted, restrained, or forced to do anything, and when placed into a situation where harsh restrictions are placed on her she often reacts violently.

She is a blunt, straightforward person who has the guile of a raging bull. She's not subtle, not at all, though she's very bad at understanding her feelings for other people. She's struggled greatly in her interpersonal relationships with other members of the Gatewatch, often feeling that only the elf, Nissa, truly gets her. This isn't to say she's emotionally stunted or unable to express herself, she is mostly bad at recognizing her own internalized feelings until they all explode.

For all that she dislikes authority it's not right to say that she’s an anarchist. She merely has problems with authority figures imposing hefty restrictions on her and anyone else. Her society growing up had a very stratified, autocratic system of government that oppressed anyone and everyone that didn't fit their mold and she's rebelling against that. Freedom, she feels, is the right of anyone who’s able to draw breath. That's why she joins with the Gatewatch, to protect the multiverse against tyranny.

Chandra is a reckless and impulsive young woman, prone to acting on emotion and intuition rather than rational, logical thought. That isn’t to say that she’s stupid, just that she doesn’t always think things through. Chandra, like most red mages, is happy to apply fire to solve whatever problems that come her way. Improvisation and clever application of her magic or mundane talents usually helps her overcome most things, but when she’s frustrated Chandra’s temper takes over. Her fury, like all of her emotions, bubbles close to the surface and she readily acts on it. She’s not a difficult person to manipulate in that regard, and she’s not very good at seeing the big picture. More crafty and manipulative individuals often find it easy to set Chandra off on a wild goose chase, such as Jace Beleren and his illusionary magic during their duel in The Purifying Flame.

For all her impulses, though, Chandra is an incredibly strong willed individual. She absolutely refuses to give in to despair and pain, and she’s willing to fight with everything she has to accomplish whatever her goals are. An example would be her escape from the Enervants on Kelaphai. She used every trick she could, bore an incredible amount of pain when they tortured her, and still managed to escape with her hide intact and leaving several of her captors dead, all while starting out powerless and manacled to a wall. Her inner (metaphorical) fire alone let her hold out long enough to think of a means of escape, whereas a lesser person might have broken under the strain.

Chandra is a person who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, and she is willing to kill in anger and out of vengeance. She’s more than willing to hold a longstanding grudge, and at one point swore an oath to destroy any organization aligned with heiromancy (law magic) for past grievances. Forgiveness is not in the nature of fire, and so she doesn’t even pretend to be willing to let others slights go unanswered. Time tempered this and she forswore the oath after spending time around a heiromancer named Gideon Jura, who fought and put his life on the line to preserve the freedoms of others. She's since learned to mind he words and her impulses, rather that focus on broad strokes like that. The examples of others can sway her, basically. She doesn’t get offended easily, shrugging off all but the worst verbal insults, too.

Despite this willingness to kill in battle, Chandra is not truly a murderer or even cold blooded. She doesn’t kill without purpose, even if that purpose is just a mercy killing, and doesn’t even really fight without cause if she can avoid it. She protects the lives of people she cares about, and has shown a certain fondness for children and other young people. Chandra’s personality doesn’t allow her to sit idly by when people need help, though she's not always the nicest about it. She’s violent, but she’s far from murderous. She doesn’t like talking, and doesn’t really focus on diplomacy, instead preferring intimidation to avoid fighting.

Another thing about her is that she has a very quirky sense of humor. She enjoys quips, sarcastic jabs, and has a fairly biting wit when it comes to people that she knows. However, this doesn’t apply to enemies or people she doesn’t know. They get a moody, petulant Chandra instead. Her reactions to people and opinions can turn on a dime, as unpredictable as fire, though she’s never shown as willing to betray trust or an ally. This mercurial attitude is reserved for people she doesn’t know, and friends get a staunch, loyal, and fairly selfless side of Chandra. As stated above, her emotions run close to the surface, so she loves big and laughs big.

Thankfully for those around her, Chandra recognizes just how dangerous her powers can be. Due to accidents when her pyromantic powers manifested and an accident with her magic that ended up killing hundreds of people. Chandra found herself pursued by the law and if her Planeswalker spark hadn’t ignited she’d have been executed. Part of the reason she joined the Fire mages at Keral Keep was to help learn to control her powers better so the boiling emotions that flow within doesn’t override her control and lead her to destroy everything around her.

Those keenly felt emotions she draws on for strength, and they do have dramatic effects (not the least of which is her hair lighting on fire!), but they do have a downside that she does understand. This lack of control has severely impacted her self esteem, but the control she's begun to learn has been steadily building back up.

Abilities & Skills:
Supernatural
Chandra is a Planeswalker, a being gifted with the incredibly rare ability to walk between planes, dimensions, and worlds. With concentration she can sidestep into the Blind Eternities (the space between worlds) and come out on another world. Planeswalkers have what's called a Spark, a nascent energy source that imparts some strange quirk and grants them an innate affinity for magic. As a product of this, when she's feeling emotional, her hair will catch fire, though it seems harmless to herself and anyone nearby.

Magic wise, Chandra is an incredibly talented wielder of Red magic, the magic of fire, heat, lightning, emotion, and the earth. Primarily a pyromancer, she's really, really good at destroying things with her magic, and she knows a dizzying array of spells to do just that. She can also augment her body with spells to make herself stronger and faster, or cause emotional responses like panic, rage, or lust in others. In addition, she can summon servants made of fire, elementals and the like as well as imps, dragons, phoenixes, and other Red aligned creatures. She's begun learning to manipulate other flavors of magic, such as spiritual fire that burns the soul, or manipulating wind and the sea with Blue magic, but those are all things she needs to work on. Similarly, Chandra has learned to commune with nature through Green magic thanks to the efforts of her friend Nissa, and is able to speak to trees enough to calm down a rampaging forest avatar.

Natural

Chandra's non-magical talents and skills are something of a mixed bag. She is a skilled survivalist, having learned to live off the land from her elven friend Nissa and the avatar of a planet, Multani. She's trained in combat with spears, slings, and staves thanks to her time in the Gatewatch with Gideon Jura in addition to battle tactics and monster slaying. She's also a natural linguist with an ear for languages. She is familiar with the basics of creating clockwork machines, like simple clocks or things as complicated as non-magical clockwork/steampunk engines thanks to her parent's work as an artificer. Chandra's cooking ability is somewhat average, and she's at least studied meditation techniques though she hates putting them to use.

Inventory/Companions:
-Standard chainmail and light armor
-A travel kit with general stuff like a bedroll, trail rations, waterskin, and a few gold nuggets, etc.
-Pyromancer's Goggles: A focusing tool that helps Chandra concentrate on her spells.
-Pyromancer's Gauntlets: Another focusing tool. The goggles and the gauntlets more or less act like a staff or wand, helping her direct her magic. They both have an amplification effect though I assume that is nerfed in game.
-Kaladeshi Pocketwatch, a clockwork pocketwatch that was given to her by her mother.
-Akroan Sural, a weapon that was once wielded by Gideon Jura. A bracer with four long whiplike blades. She has no idea how to use this, it was just left to her to deliver to Gideon's home plane.

Choice: Witch
Reason: I have chosen Witch because Chandra's complex relationship with her magic, both learning how to use it and how to control it, is central to her character. She's also just naturally inclined towards magic. Chandra without magic would feel strange to me, and challenging her with learning an entirely new type of magic has a lot of appeal to me.
